UX Designers rarely are concerned with the nitty-gritty details of how their digital products actually work. But, hidden beneath our fancy buttons and forms (and an appropriate amount of whitespace) lies the REAL product that our users interact with. It's built with code and can sometimes behave in an extremely unintuitive way. Its language is the API and trying to understand it better will lead not only to us becoming better designers, but to our product becoming easier to work with and better to use for the end users.
I will present my learnings (based on my work on a highly technical product for the past 5 years) on API design, present 5 SIMPLE API design guidelines (to get you started) and share best practices of working with back-end engineers.
